4TH MODULE : 2nd session
In this session , we started by watching a video where a teacher explained a certain situation he had with his students . The students were actually applying grammar rules correctly , but at the time of talking students tend to make too many pauses while trying to figure out what to convey out of their mouths, so he basically decided to apply his own curriculum based on teaching English without teaching English . We had the chance to discuss in groups some questions regarding the video , and one of the questions that got my attention was the next one:
WHAT DO YOU THINK MR GUZMAN REFERRED TO MISTAKES AS ``DEVELOPMENTAL ERROR`` ?
In my opinion and based on what the teacher on the video said , this has to do with making mistakes ,and to see them as a natural fact while learning a language . Most of students , and I include myself , tend to be afraid of making mistakes because of what others will say , and that tendency causes an obstacle for us to learn from our mistakes since we rather stay quite than give our opinions during a discussion , we won`t be able to be aware of our failures in the language.
ANOTHER QUESTION IS DO YOU AGREE OF USING FIRST LANGUAGE TO COMMUNICATE TO THE TEACHER OR CLASSMATES IN AN EFL COURSE?
In my opinion , I do agree , but not in a 100% of usage of their native language. There should be at least a balance of both languages when the students are just beginners. I consider a 50 native /50 target language , but in a class where students are in an advanced level , there should be a more demanfing level of difficulty , and the use of the native language should not be allowed.
After we finish answering the guide, we took a look at some guideline of how a teorethical framework should be constructed.
- Writing a review of the literature
- summarizing
- making a diagram
- ,and brainstorming
