In this ocassion , my group and I started presenting our research topic which is
HOW VIOLENCE AFFECTS CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
We basically defined some concepts such as procedures , techniques , discipline , etc .
I had the chance to reflect on the topic with the students by asking them some critical thinking questions. Here in El Salvador is not a unknown new that the educational system is failing since gangs are practically taking their own territory to the point that they also get involved within public schools. Sometimes , the same students are the ones who are part of a gang , and they usually threathen teachers and figures of authority inside the schools.
As consequence , disciplinary action taken from teachers are seen as a dangerous action nowadays . Punishing students have become almost prohibited since many teachers have been murdered because they confiscated something from certain students that unfortunately were involved in gangs.
Our purpose with this research is to find out if there are some facts on how violence affects teachers at a superior education level in order to provide a solution to it.
A second topic seen in this session was ,
DIDACTIC SEQUENCE
DS refers to the order in which activities are followed in a class. The teacher talked also about the Input Hyphotesis which establishes that when teaching something to our students it should be at their level plus one level more . It meas that the task should be a little bit harder than the students`current level of abilities on the language. If we give them something of a higher level they will feel frustrated when trying to solve the task.
DS also involves a herarchy of componets , APPROACH which is the theory of language , METHODS which is a way of teaching something , and that is also based on an approach. TECHNIQUES are the specific steps to follow in order to solve a task . After all this , we proceed with lesson plans which are also part of DS . It is importan to highlight that we as teachers cannot go and teach English through an invented way . There should always be a base and theory that guides us to teach our target population.
